First week & Design Icons Amsterdam!

The first week was a little bit difficult. In consultation with my mentor Woo, we decided that the first week is a bit different. I worked the whole week from home, at my own desk. The whole week we kept in touch by e-mail, and whatsapp. I prepared a few details for the exhibition in Amsterdam and contacted a few advertisers with a reminder for the weekend. In our opinion it was much easier to leave after the exhibition, because the van is too small for transporting the stand and more than three people...

You need a lot of discipline for working at your own place. There are a lot of things you may like to do. Because Woo has little time for doing the whole marketing department combined with sales, she gave me the task to improve the digital marketing. With the project from ‘Ecover’ and the book from last year, I began to work on my task. Research is very important, after the research I combined this information with my own knowledge and the book. Searching for reasons, why, who and when. Not just the theory, so I also made my own twitter account this week, I have made my own blog, created new ‘pins’ on pinterest, and so on,... just to find out what is working online and how.

On Saturday and Sunday was the Designicons fair in Amsterdam. The infrastructure was very industrial and modern, this together with the vintage design, brilliant! The people in Amsterdam were very ‘chatty’, sincerely interested in the magazine, so I also created potential advertisers... It was nice to talk about the magazine in Dutch and English at the same time. The atmosphere was very relaxed, no stress at all.

I have learned that they really love what they create, and sell. This is something that I really appreciate about them. I do not have to be afraid to ask something or when something went wrong. Woo also told me that the magazine does not have an integral marketing plan, so we are going to make this together. I really look forward to this challenge!

We also discussed some details we are going to do during my internship, and it sounds awesome! A fair in London city with design furniture is one of them. Also we are going to create the new issue for April/May 2015... Exciting!

Tomorrow we are leaving Oostmalle very early, so goodbye for now! And I will write again in England!
